As put forward back in November, having just completed another parallel post season with my partner Rachel, the blogger otherwise known as the Scientist Gone Wordy, we came up with a notion. Usually around this time of year, she and I begin to select five titles a piece for the year to come. Thought we’d perform a test of change and open it up.
We solicited for possible ideas by our readers. Something we wouldn’t necessarily pick ourselves. The titles offered in the comments by said on our blogs and/or Facebook pages were fantastic, so we opened it up for readers to vote on. And today we announce those results:
Sergio‘s, of Tipping My Fedora, suggestion, Breakfast at Tiffany‘s by Truman Capote (and Blake Edwards’ 1961 film) led early and was never passed. Although, Watchmen by Alan Moore (2009 adaptation by Zack Snyder) made a late charge to complete the reader selection for BubbaWheat and his Flights, Tights, & Movie Nights blog. Congratulations to both. We’re surprised and delighted with the final tally.
Now that we know what our readers want, and to further break new ground, Rachel and I are also pre-announcing the Parallel/Duo Post schedule for 2015. Most are from authors new to the series, with a couple of returning favorites. Michael Crichton adds two more to our list of reviews, with John le Carré and Stephen King rounding out our returnees. Rachel’s four are in red, and mine in blue:
- January – Breakfast at Tiffany’s
- February – Brokeback Mountain
- March – Lost Moon (filmed as Apollo 13)
- April – The Accidental Tourist
- May – Sphere
- June – The Shining (a double-feature as we’ll also look at the Room 237 documentary)
- July – Watchmen
- August – Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
- September – Eaters of the Dead (filmed as The 13th Warrior)
- October – Zodiac
So there we have it. Our run of synchronous book and movie reviews for 2015. We’re beholden to those who’ve read our reviews over the past five years and hope this pays some of that back. With many thanks.
