On the Lookout for Books and Movies 2016 Poll Results
As put forward back in November, having just completed another parallel post season with my partner Rachel, the blogger otherwise known as the Scientist Gone Wordy, we followed up with the same notion from last year. In the past, around this time of year, she and I would begin to select five titles a piece for the year to come. Now we know better.
We solicited for possible ideas by our readers. Something we wouldn’t necessarily pick ourselves. The titles offered in the comments by said on our blogs and/or Facebook pages were again diverse and fantastic, so we opened it up for readers to vote on. And today we announce those results (click to enlarge):
Elyse, the fabulous Pop Culture Nerd, came in with the top suggestion, All You Need is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka. Filmed as Edge of Tomorrow, and directed by Doug Liman, led early along with its constant chaser always close by. Strangers on a Train by Patricia Highsmith, famously adapted for the Alfred Hitchcock film, and suggested by Wordy reader, Dr Musacha.
Congratulations to both, and once again we’re delighted with the final tally.
Now that we know what our readers want, we’ll continue the new tradition and pre-announce Rachel’s and my picks for this Parallel/Duo Post 2016 season. Once more, most are from authors new to the series, with a one of my favorites as the lone returnee, the late-Elmore Leonard. Rachel’s impressive four are in red, and my ’70s heavy picks in blue:
- January – All You Need is Kill (filmed as Edge of Tomorrow and renamed Live. Die. Repeat.)
- February – Like Water for Chocolate
- March – The Laughing Policeman
- April – The Joy Luck Club
- May – Deliverance
- June – Life of Pi
- July – 52 Pick-up
- August – The Three Musketeers (Richard Lester’s 1973-4 adaptation split into two movies)
- September – Strangers on a Train
- October – The Sentinel (1977 Michael Winner film)
So there we have it. Our run of synchronous book and movie reviews for the new year. We’re beholden to those who’ve read our reviews over the past six years and hope this pays some of that back. With many thanks.

I was impressed how well Deliverance translated from book to screen. It helped having the author do the screenplay.

Some interesting stuff here! I loved Edge of Tomorrow so am interested in reading about All You Need Is Kill. 🙂 I’ve not read any of these other than Life Of Pi.
