I’m Not Missing A Summer Movie Quiz by Dennis — No Matter How Late
Blogger, noted New Beverly Cinema and drive-in movie supporter, and genuinely real good guy (along with being a good friend), Dennis Cozzalio is one who focuses his followers on what’s important. Not the mundane aspects of everyday life, but the truly consequential that leads many of us to pore over details of the monumental and crucial that has eaten up many, many hours. In the dark…with loads of strangers sitting beside us, in the cathedral of cinema.
And how has he done this, you ask? Besides his deft writing on subjects that range far and wide on the movies that have captivated us, he has periodically tested his minions and disciples over on this wonderfully titled Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule site. His semi-regular movie quizzes are online events that many look forward to, me included, and he’s done them now going on for an unbelievable ten years1. Quite a feat, if I do say so myself.

And I still somehow missed this year’s summer movie quiz, which came out at the end of April, for chissakes!
Even if my good friend Dennis posted his “correct” answers a month ago, I’m not letting this go without a response. As I’ve stated more than once, I treat these as interview questions. Anyone interested in film is invited to take part. Proud to own a brand spanking new Miracle Mile in high-def. I’m more than happy with my standard definition copy of Fritz Lang‘s The Big Heat, though.

And I just re-watched last Spring what turned out to be his debut feature film, Run Silent Run Deep. At the very least as funny as Rodney Dangerfield, but far superior as an actor. Mr. Warmth himself…

#7: Eve Arden. For her dry, wry humor and quips.

#24: The “Colossus” super computer in ‘Colossus: The Forbin Project’, The great grandfather of ‘Sky Net’.
#25: The Ladies in Attendance of ‘Firefly’ commenting on its ‘Shindig’ episode. Interesting insights into the costuming, set design and other tricks employed throughout.
#26: ‘Deep Cover’ and ‘Bad Company’. For their story lines, execution and Lawrence Fishburne in his prime “Bad ass” era.

Alain Delon is the epitome of cool, perhaps the first French actor who I consider drop dead gorgeous, you can cut glass on those cheekbones. Love Don Rickles too, he was recently on Jimmy Fallon and he had me in stitches!

I loved the Deer Hunter, and in many ways, I think it is a great movie, but when Michael walked through the airport after returning home from Vietnam in dress uniform and a full beard, I
wanted to barf. While sailors are allowed to wear beards, soldiers absolutely are not, not even on the battle field, especially not an excellent soldier. I just couldn’t fathom why Camino
would run a great movie with such a stupidly out of place detail. As an Army Brat, and knowing my father, at that point he might well have walked out of the film.

I watched a lot of films by these three directors in the late 70-80s. Fassbender was my favorite. I never noticed the documentary influence in any of their films. Fassbender would still be making films about dealing with dark hearts and little hope.
