Reblogged: Musings of a Sci-Fi Fanatic: Lana Del Rey: Born To Die: The Paradise Edition.
Not only is the blogger from Musings of a Sci-Fi Fanatic one of my favorite writers on the genre that is part of his sobriquet, but his compositions on music are nonpareil. He puts so much thought and depth into to it that I cannot help but be drawn. And he did it again to me this week with his look at an artist that only caught me this year (better late than never, I say).
“I tend to discover music before most of my pop-reared family. Bastille and Josh Kumra were two of my recent discoveries. My son turned me on to Imagine Dragons. Of Monsters And Men’s My Head Is An Animal (2011) was derided by my family initially when it was in heavy rotation in the vehicle. It wasn’t until it broke on pop radio with Little Talks that my son had a change of heart. Likewise, my daughter and The One To Be Pitied finally gave Lana a second look upon hearing sleeper hit Summertime Sadness on radio this year. Why are people slaves to the radio? Hasn’t the Internet changed all that? Summertime Sadness made the rounds on pop radio and garnered a little, much deserved attention even if it’s not one of her very best from her instant classic Born To Die (2012; fifth best seller of that year) recording. It’s still incredibly good.”
See what I mean? I recommend you take a gander at his Lana Wood – Born to Die: Paradise Edition post, if you’re into this lady with the haunting vocals, or just music itself. And to help pull you in, listen to the hit SFF remarked upon. Written by songwriters Elizabeth Grant and Rick Nowels, it’s a grand one for this after-Labor Day Friday:
Kiss me hard before you go Summertime sadness I just wanted you to know That baby you the best I got my red dress on tonight Dancing in the dark in the pale moonlight Done my hair up real big beauty queen style High heels off, I'm feeling alive Oh, my God, I feel it in the air Telephone wires above are sizzling like a snare Honey, I'm on fire I feel it everywhere Nothing scares me anymore Two, three, four Kiss me hard before you go Summertime sadness I just wanted you to know That baby you the best I've got that summertime, summertime sadness S-s-summertime, summertime sadness Got that summertime, summertime sadness Oh, oh oh oh oh I'm feelin' e-lec-tric tonight Cruising down the coast goin' 'bout 99 Got my bad baby by my heavenly side I know if I go, I'll die happy tonight Oh, my God, I feel it in the air Telephone wires above are sizzling like a snare Honey, I'm on fire I feel it everywhere Nothing scares me anymore Two, three, four Kiss me hard before you go Summertime sadness I just wanted you to know That baby you the best I've got that summertime, summertime sadness S-s-summertime, summertime sadness Got that summertime, summertime sadness Oh, oh oh oh oh Think I'll miss you forever Like the stars miss the sun in the morning skies Late is better than never Even if you're gone I'm gonna drive, drive, drive I've got that summertime, summertime sadness S-s-summertime, summertime sadness Got that summertime, summertime sadness Oh, oh oh oh oh Kiss me hard before you go Summer time sadness I just wanted you to know That baby you the best I've got that summertime, summertime sadness S-s-summertime, summertime sadness Got that summertime, summertime sadnessOh, oh oh oh oh

And you and I are so simpatico when it comes to our love for music.
It’s hard to stick hard and straight to sci-fi when we love music so much.
In college I spentmy years writing for the school paper and much of it was covering music. I simply love it.
And you, yourself, consistently cover music enlightening my love of it fruther.
