Reprise – Quiz Time
Because I’m lazy I wanted to have them all in one place, I’m pulling my earliest movie quiz posts from the old blog archive and placing them on my current. After the one I published last Friday I realized it was the follow-up to the very first movie quiz I ever did, from April 2009. Might as well get this entry out there, too. The answers will remain the same with the exception of a handful here, which I HAD to update. Think on this as a summer re-run ;-).

» There was never a better villain swordsman than Basil Rathbone…period.
17) Summer movies—your highest and lowest expectations
» X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Star Trek, and Up have my highest expectations; G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, my lowest
18) Whether or not you’re a parent, what would be your ideal pick as first movie to see with your own child (or niece/nephew)? Why?
» WALL•E — because not only was it a highly entertaining movie, with loads of spectacular visuals, fun references to other film classics, and had a dystopian outlook initially, its story was one of optimism. A journey of how one learns to love. It displays how one’s soul was more than the physical parts that make us human. I defy anyone who views the sequence where E.V.E. tries her damnest to bring her WALL•E back online, literally from the dead, and says they did not feel anything while viewing it. The film will stand multiple viewings, and the test of time, I reckon.
19) L.Q. Jones or Strother Martin
» Both are great character actors, but L.Q. Jones always came off way cooler to me.

» Home – because, as my wife can attest, I have a whole lot of discs and tapes 😉

» Oh, that’s easy… Million Dollar Baby. Don’t get me wrong, it’s simply a great film and I love the characters in it. But, it’s still sitting in a drawer somewhere, unopened. I want to see the film again, unlike ‘Requiem for a Dream’ for instance, but it’s such a devastating movie (I saw it first-run in a movie theater) I can’t get it into the DVD player to screen it a second time.
25) Beyoncé Knowles or Jennifer Hudson?
» Jennifer Hudson — because she can sing, and, just as importantly, act.
26) Favorite Robert Mitchum movie?
» The little known Sydney Pollack film, The Yakuza (written by Paul Schrader and Robert Towne). He was almost 60 when he made it, and still carried off his role in what was a tribute to the (at that time, little known) Japanese gangster film. Few actors could carry off weary and dangerous with that ease — even fewer, anywhere near that age. For those interested, I wrote the film up almost two years ago.
27) Favorite movie featuring a ‘60s musical group that is not either the Beatles or the Monkees
» Ferry Cross the Mersey (1965), featuring Gerry and the Pacemakers

» Maria Ouspenskaya
29) Favorite Vincent Price movie?
» Theatre of Blood — Vincent Price, a far better actor than given credit, performing as a second-rate ham British stage actor was simply splendid here. Co-star Diana Rigg considered it her best film, too.
30) Name a movie currently flying under the radar that is deserving of rabid cult status.
» for gross fun – Slither; for crime fiction – Hickey & Boggs
31) Irene Ryan or Lucille Benson (or Bea Benaderet)?
» Irene Ryan (hey, I did pick Buddy Ebsen, didn’t I?)
32) Single line from a movie that never fails to make your laugh or otherwise cheer you up. (This may be obvious, but the line does not have to come from a comedy.)
» As delivered Lt. Nick Frescia (Kurt Russell) from Robert Towne’s Tequila Sunrise,

Million Dollar Baby I’ve taught to my college students. There’s a lot of dimension to it. One of my favorite heroines. Seeing Clint Eastwood break down and cry hurts, too.

The Scarlet Pumpernickel! I don’t think I’d call that my favorite Looney Tunes cartoon (probably Duck Amuck), but it’s up there. Way up there.
Theater of Blood is one of the Vincent Price films I haven’t seen yet. Going to have to track it down.
