When The Last Man on Earth Wasn’t Alone
As the month of October counts down to its end, and landing on the favored holiday of Halloween, my good blogging colleague Ed Copeland has graciously republished an updated piece of mine from a couple of years back. The post was my way of paying tribute to a book I consider (because it broke the mold of the vampire genre) as influential a work as Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The fact that it was done by one of my all-time favorite authors, Richard Matheson, was no surprise (at least to me). The article looks at his 1954 novel, I Am Legend, its the film adaptations, and its most recent publication to the audiobook form. With thanks to Ed, here is the link:

I’ll definitely have to give the audiobook a listen. And is it sad that I’m interested in seeing Will Smith’s I AM LEGEND only because of the kudos you gave Samantha? 😉 Perhaps a good lazy Sunday afternoon flick?

I remember loving “The Omega Man” when I was a kid. However, I recently tried to watch it again and couldn’t make it through it. Somehow I have yet to see the Will Smith version “I Am Legend” (finally having the original novel’s title), but have heard decent to good things about that adaptation.

While I didn’t care much for ‘The Omega Man’s mutant slant away from the more interesting scientific ‘vampire lore’ deconstruction of Matheson’s book, Heston (in his sci-fi reemergent period) and Rosalind Cash remain a draw for me. I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on the most recent adaptation, Jamie. Thanks.
