Still more lazy thoughts from this one…

This isn’t flying, this is blogging with style!

The fine western and noir film blogger on the opposite side of the Atlantic (this sounds better than saying ‘way, way on the other side of the Pacific’, now doesn’t it?), Livius from Riding the High Country, was extremely kind by bestowing upon moi a Stylish Blogger Award. I’ve never thought of myself as stylish, but then again I do wear a driving cap most of the time, and in the reverse position, at that. Admittedly, this might automatically disqualify me…

Nonetheless, the rules are that you must post the award graphic (check), write seven facts about yourself (see below), and name seven other blogs you feel deserve the award (even further below). I assume the usual are also in play — thank and link back to the one who nominated you (thank you sincerely, Colin) and let those who I nominate know of this (emails are on their way). So, let’s get started:

  1. I’m right-handed, but I do a lot by way of my left (I even use my left eye for telescope gazing and place the phone to my left ear).
  2. Once upon a time, I used to do archery… that is until I discovered golf was more habit-forming, expensive, and humbling.
  3. As a child, my absolute favorite food during the season of Lent was my grandmother’s Capirotada.
  4. In high school, I hated to write [insert here, essays, term papers, etc.] — I still find it ironic that I’ve taken to blogging (and even more surprised people will read it, voluntarily).
  5. To my wife’s chagrin, I collect colorful and inspirational t-shirts, like this one.
  6. At age 15  I saw my entire life pass before my eyes as I fell in between the railroad ties of the four-story train bridge I was crossing (it spanned the L.A. River), and it surely wasn’t much of a life to that point.
  7. Believe it or not, I am a sucker for the embarrassing romantic gesture in film. Case in point: Kurt Russell (as Reno Hightower) singing the most cheesy of Carpenters songs there is (1970’s Close to You) in an attempt to woo back his separated wife Gigi (Pamela Reed) in The Best of Times. It remains one of those peculiarly comical yet nostalgic movie sequences that is equally mortifying and fun to watch.

So, I hereby nominate the following set of marvelous bloggers to pay it forward:

Congrats on this award! What do you mean you’re not stylish? I loved the Huggy Bear outfit you wore when I saw you last.

Yikes. I did not know about that train incident.

And that’s a fine group of bloggers you passed this on to!

I don’t know why I recalled that incident for this post (I’ve never really talked about it before this). Thanks, Elyse.

Well thank you, kind sir. I didn’t even realize you had more than one blog. Hardly a “lazy boomer” after all, huh? 😉

You’re welcome, Elizabeth. I’m over here now as I’ve moved my operations over (the old blog is more of an archive now). Thanks.

I felt my knees go weak just reading #6. I don’t do heights. That includes railroad trestles and swinging bridges. I get cold chills just thinking of you falling between the ties.

Lucky for me, only one of my legs got to travel the gap between ties. Still, it’s a short trip I never want to repeat. It’s also the reason that train scene in the film Stand By Me makes me uncomfortable. Thanks, Naomi.

Thank you L13! You are a scholar and a gentleman.

And congrats to you. You are certainly a man with style! Take care, sff.

Love the new look! How (dare I say it?) stylish!

I am tinkled pink at the nod and the fantastic company I’m in with your list of seven! I can’t wait to play along… I doubt I will be able to share anything as harrowing as falling on train tracks, though. 😉

Oooh, you gave your blog a makeover. I like! It’s more streamlined and the comments are bigger, which is important when you’re old and severely myopic like me. Nice job!

A nice mix of the familiar and the not so in your list of nominees – will be checking them out.
And the new look of the blog is indeed stylish.
